Reviewing what we've gathered

Everything you tell the interviewer, and everything the app reads from your letters, photos and recordings, is collected into one place: the people, places and moments of your life. This page, titled "A life, taking shape", is where you can see what's been gathered and correct anything that isn't right.

Open it with the Story so far pill in the Story tab, or Review answers in the Questions panel.

Needs your eye

From time to time the app spots something only you can decide, and shows it as a card at the top of the page.

• "The same person?" (or place, organization, or thing). Two records might be one, like "Peggy" and "Margaret". Choose Yes, combine them or No, keep separate. When you combine, you pick which record keeps the name. If a name was misheard, mark it as a mishearing so the app doesn't keep it.
• "The same moment, told twice?" One event captured as two moments. Choose Combine them or Keep both.
• "An interview note, not a memory?" Something about the process slipped in as if it were part of your life. Choose Keep it or Remove it.

Tap Check for tidy-ups to run a scan whenever you like. While it runs, the page checks back every few seconds. When everything is in order it says "All tidy — nothing needs your eye right now."

Nothing is ever merged or removed without your say-so, and once you've rejected a suggestion you won't be asked about it again.

The people in your story, and the moments as they surface

Below the tidy-ups you'll find a gallery of the people in your story. See everyone opens a searchable browser across People, Places, Organizations and Things.

Under that is a timeline of moments grouped by era, ending with "Later years · still gathering". See all moments shows the full list.

Fixing something

Tap any person, place, thing or moment to open its edit sheet. You can change the name, the description ("Who they are" or "What it is"), and any other names it goes by ("Also called"). For a moment you can edit the event itself and its era.

Remove from the story deletes the record after a confirmation.

As the sheet says: "Fix anything the interview got wrong — it corrects the whole story." A correction here flows into every chapter written afterwards. Chapters already written keep their text until you rewrite them.
