Recording captures that, and the app turns it into part of your story just as it does with your interview answers.
Start from Record a talk on the Material tab, or Record audio on Home.
Choose how you're recording
- Solo Narration: "Tell your story freely without prompts." One voice.
- Record Conversation: "Capture a conversation with family or friends." Each speaker is identified and labelled in the transcript.
The choice matters because the two are transcribed differently. A conversation takes longer to process because the speakers are being told apart.
While you're recording
Recording starts as soon as you choose a mode. You'll see a timer and a live waveform, with pause, resume and stop.
If you back out, the app asks "Cancel Recording?" and offers Discard or Continue Recording.
When you stop, you return to the Material tab, where the new recording appears and begins uploading.
Offline first. The audio is saved to your device the moment you stop. If there's no connection, the card waits as Pending Upload and uploads by itself when you're back online. Nothing is lost. If it seems stuck, see A recording is stuck at "Pending Upload".
From audio to story
Recorded → Uploaded → Transcribing → Woven into the story
Transcription starts on its own after upload. Once it's done, the recording is read into your story like any uploaded document: the moments and people it mentions are remembered, any questions it answers are closed, and any chapter that gains new material is flagged New material · regenerate on the Book tab.
The recording's page and transcript
Tap a recording to open its detail page. You'll find playback, a title you can edit, the duration, word count, speakers and confidence, a status chip, and the action buttons: Upload, Transcribe, or Retry Transcription if something failed.
A transcript preview links to the full transcript page. For conversations it's labelled by speaker. There's a Copy transcription button if you want the text elsewhere.
A Knowledge base card at the bottom lists the moments and people this recording produced.
